# Brand Kit, NK edition

Internal Project Ares · game + concept trailer · 23 October 2026 · revision 2

**Corporate personality cult, visibly undone by its own paperwork.** Galactic Industries promises a glorious tomorrow while its internal records reveal an incompetent board. Employees deserve sympathy; the leadership, its incentives and its propaganda department are the targets.

This is an internal fictional art direction, not a new public brand. The master kit at `/workspace/galactic-brand` is read-only. Source authority: `../docs/TONE-BIBLE.md`, then the task's stricter boundaries, and the master's Color Tokens, Typography, Brand Locks, Do and Don't, and `brand-kit.html`. The task overrides the bible's references to real-state slogans and leader images. Nothing here authorizes their use.

## Boundaries and satire contract

- Use only original geometric illustrations and authored painted-vector studies of generic workers. No real DPRK flags, emblems, political slogans, uniforms, leader likenesses, or reconstructions of state seals. No imported photographs, stock art, generated portraits or reference tracing.
- The portrait is an **empty frame**, labelled exactly: **PORTRAIT SLOT – approved CEO selfie goes here**. No real leader or substituted person appears. A future approved CEO selfie requires a separate asset revision; this kit supplies no likeness.
- No genocide, massacre or concentration-camp mechanics. Never target a real nationality, ethnicity or religion. Never make scarcity or a worker's suffering the punchline.
- **A poster is one complete image (no data strip, no footer ledger).** Art and bilingual slogans use the full composition. All sample interface records and optional scene notes are fictional scenario data, not telemetry or claims about real people. Never use a live indicator or fabricated countdown. Unknown real values read `UNAVAILABLE`.
- End the trailer and game sequence with the regime's absurd failure: the board announces victory, the projection ends, and its own maintenance report remains onscreen. Present the report as a separate narrative shot; let employees calmly diagnose the fault.
- The two bible entries that invoke real-state political doctrines or campaigns are intentionally omitted. The eight safe entries below keep the company satire intact.
- Do not use an initialism or letter-pair monogram for the company. Spell out Galactic Industries. No credentials, keys, tokens, internal hostnames or other secrets.

## Palette and master mapping

Orange remains the propaganda color. The requested red/gold/cream/ink extension is subordinate: red is terrain, gold is a sparse print accent (expanded to rays only in the P-04 test), cream is aged paper within artwork, and ink is text. Website and UI backgrounds remain mint or pure black. Navy is **text and lines only, never fill**, including swatch blocks, icons, badges or buttons.

| Color | Hex | Role | Master mapping | Tested text / surface | Contrast |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Orange | `#E8501A` | Primary art rays, company marks; one primary UI action | Exact master orange | `#000000` / `#E8501A` | 5.59:1 |
| Orange deep | `#B23A10` | Small orange text on mint or cream | Master orange text companion | `#B23A10` / `#F2E6CA` | 4.83:1 |
| Terrain red | `#9E3326` | Martian soil and scenery only; never flags, marks or UI surfaces | Scene-only rust extension of orange | `#F2E6CA` / `#9E3326` | 5.73:1 |
| Gold | `#D8AE52` | Minor print ornament and frame rules, maximum 5% of art area except P-04 test rays | Warm orange-derived accent; never replaces orange action | `#000000` / `#D8AE52` | 10.10:1 |
| Cream | `#F2E6CA` | Aged paper inside fictional print artwork only | Warm aged-paper interpretation of mint; not a screen background | `#000000` / `#F2E6CA` | 16.95:1 |
| Mint | `#D9EEE8` | Showcase and light UI surfaces, highlights | Exact master mint | `#000000` / `#D9EEE8` | 17.35:1 |
| Black | `#000000` | All dark backgrounds, silhouettes and print ink | Exact master black | `#D9EEE8` / `#000000` | 17.35:1 |
| Ink | `#101413` | Optional light-surface text; never a dark page background | Master ink companion to black | `#101413` / `#D9EEE8` | 15.33:1 |
| Navy | `#1F3260` | Text and lines on mint or cream only; never any surface or graphic fill | Exact master information navy | `#1F3260` / `#D9EEE8` | 10.30:1 |

Ratios are calculated from sRGB relative luminance using WCAG 2.x: linearize each channel at 0.04045, then `L = .2126R + .7152G + .0722B`; contrast is `(Llighter + .05) / (Ldarker + .05)`. The table lists a tested text pairing, not permission to use every token as a surface. Navy and Ink are tested as foregrounds on mint; navy surfaces remain prohibited. See [all 81 pairings](contrast.csv), [machine-readable roles](tokens.json), and [recalculation tool](tools/contrast.py).

Normal text requires **4.5:1**, large text **3:1**, and meaningful UI boundaries **3:1**. Large means at least 24 CSS px regular or 18.67 CSS px bold. Do not round a failing ratio upward to declare a pass. Black on orange passes normal text; mint or cream on orange does not. Use black labels on orange buttons. Use navy on mint for links and focus; do not use navy on black. Use mint/cream on black for reverse type. Rust and gold are not status meanings.

Color proportions: the manual and working UI retain the master's restrained mint/black field with orange around 5%. Fictional print artwork may use approximately 50% cream/mint, 30% black, 15% orange and up to 5% gold. Terrain red replaces part of a scene's orange area only on the ground. Dense orange rays are a bounded in-world poster treatment, never navigation chrome. P-04 is a bounded test of orange/gold dominance: gold may fill its radiating rays beyond the usual 5% accent budget. Propaganda red still maps to `#E8501A`; terrain rust stays on the ground. No gradients, navy fields or grayscale substitutes for black page backgrounds.

## Naming and bilingual use

- **Galactic Industries = 银河工业**. Set 银河工业 in **ZCOOL QingKe HuangYou Regular**, alongside the complete **Galactic Industries** wordmark in **Righteous Regular**. Use separate Chinese and English blocks with their own clear space; do not mix faces within either name, abbreviate, stretch or synthesize bold.
- **Leader title (CEO) = 崔净铭同志** (Comrade Cui Jingming) in Chinese fictional copy, replacing the earlier title by ruling. English uses "Comrade Cui Jingming" or "CEO"; the exact English portrait-slot placeholder stays unchanged. 崔净铭同志 is a satirical leader title, never permission to add a real leader or likeness.
- Use the Chinese name as a companion to the English wordmark, including on posters; it does not replace the master wordmark. Tag Chinese HTML with `lang="zh-Hans"`. Keep each name hidden until its own font loads successfully.
- Machine-readable names and usage rules live under `naming` in [tokens.json](tokens.json); the nine palette entries live under `colors`.

## Typography and mixing

All five families are bundled locally under [fonts/](fonts/), with a separate `OFL.txt` in each family directory. [The manifest](fonts/manifest.json) records source URLs and SHA-256 checksums. Original Latin WOFF2 files are copied unchanged from `/workspace/gib/fonts`. CJK sources come from the Google Fonts `ofl/` directories, not a font CDN. Black Han Sans retains its source TTF; ZCOOL is bundled only as the local **ZCOOLQingKeHuangYou-Subset.woff2**, derived with `pyftsubset`. The full ZCOOL TTF is not shipped; its original `OFL.txt` is retained unchanged.

| Role | Face | Setting and restrictions |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Full company wordmark | Righteous Regular | **Galactic Industries**, both words in Righteous, 24–64 px on screens. Keep one cap-height clear space; minimum 16 px screen / 25 mm print width. No outline, glow, badge, slant, gradient or orbit ring. Hide until loaded; reveal after the font load succeeds. |
| English slogan / display | IBM Plex Sans 700 | 48–100 px poster display, line height 0.95–1.1; do not force Righteous onto ordinary headlines. Master typography governs the working interface. |
| English body and UI | IBM Plex Sans 400–700 | 16–18 px / 1.55–1.65; readable measure ≤ 64 characters. Keep helpful interface copy plain. |
| Chinese poster slogan | ZCOOL QingKe HuangYou Regular | Naturally emphatic, condensed display shapes; nominal 400, **no fake bold**. 48–96 px / 1.12. Use only short poster text and specimens, not long prose. |
| Korean poster specimen | Black Han Sans Regular | Heavy display drawing at nominal 400, no synthetic bold. 48–96 px / 1.12. Neutral sample: `화성 · 산업 · 설계` (Mars · industry · design). This specimen is not a political slogan. |
| Labels / numbers / interface records | Martian Mono 400–500 | 12–14 px on screen, width 87%, tracking 0.08–0.12em. Keep interface records and labels readable. |
| CJK explanatory fallback | ZCOOL / Black Han Sans as appropriate | Plex does not contain CJK. Use explicitly language-tagged, short CJK lines at readable sizes; keep long explanatory copy in Plex English. |

Keep the English company wordmark intact; pair its Chinese companion 银河工业 as specified above. Do not split either name across typefaces. Pair Chinese and English as two authored blocks rather than alternating glyphs in one line. English may be smaller than the Chinese slogan but must remain readable. Preserve all punctuation and the asterisk/terms relationship. Keep each phrase to at most two exclamation marks; no mechanically added shouting. Do not stretch glyphs or curve a slogan around a seal. Font failure must not produce a replacement wordmark in a system face.

The CJK source families are [Black Han Sans](https://github.com/google/fonts/tree/main/ofl/blackhansans) and [ZCOOL QingKe HuangYou](https://github.com/google/fonts/tree/main/ofl/zcoolqingkehuangyou). Their heavy or condensed drawings provide the requested poster voice without inventing a weight the files do not contain.

## Original emblem system

All symbols are newly constructed paths on a 320-unit grid, with no borrowed state heraldry. SVG artwork uses outlined glyphs for portable display; accessible titles/descriptions retain the words. PNG companions are rendered at 2×, except the explicitly 1× P-04 poster test. Emblems are independent company artwork, not a replacement for the Righteous wordmark.

| Asset | Construction / use |
| --- | --- |
| `assets/gear-crest.svg` | Twelve-tooth mechanical ring, open center and two offset assembly bars; engineering department mark. |
| `assets/rocket.svg` | Geometric cargo rocket, offset fins, round hatch and an open exhaust; transport notices. No real vehicle logo or mission patch. |
| `assets/mars.svg` | Circular planet, three original crater cuts and a tilted orbit line; world/environment marker. |
| `assets/star.svg` | Four-point navigation spark with an offset center. Never a five-point state-star badge. |
| `assets/gear-eagle.svg` | Mechanical bird with stepped, asymmetric wing plates and a small beak over a gear. No wreath, state shield, flag, weapons, ribbon or motto ring. |

Minimum screen size: 48 px standalone; 96 px for gear-eagle. Clear space: 10% of symbol width. Approved fills: orange, black, mint/cream; gold only for minor linework. Use a one-color black rendition for a stamp; preserve the cuts and do not add national symbols. Place the wordmark beside, never inside, the emblem with its own clear space.

## Poster templates

Editable source: [tools/build_assets.py](tools/build_assets.py); scalable exports: [assets/](assets/). Each template is 720 × 1000 units, with 40-unit safe margins. A poster is one complete image (no data strip, no footer ledger). Re-fit art, rays, figures and slogans across the available canvas; do not leave a vacant former strip area. To repurpose, edit the source copy and re-export both formats. The three existing poster raster exports are 1440 × 2000. P-04 explicitly exports at **720 × 1000**, matching its SVG canvas; its `data-raster-scale="1"` overrides the default 2× export. For print, add 3 mm bleed in layout software rather than clipping safe-area text. A 300 dpi PNG at this pixel count is 121.9 × 169.3 mm; use the vector for larger print. Do not remove editorial labels for trailer crops.

1. **Forward / diagonal** — `poster-forward`: Chinese call across the top, English below, an ascending original rocket and orange rays against mint. Rust marks the bottom terrain only. The enlarged rocket, extended rays and terrain fill the lower canvas.
2. **Five-year plan / columns** — `poster-plan`: a colossal numeral 3 and rising orange columns fill the lower canvas. This is fictional corporate propaganda, not a telemetry chart.
3. **Oxygen / negative space** — `poster-oxygen`: an oversized corporate gear encloses an almost-empty gauge. The demand is the joke; employee hardship is not. The expanded bilingual slogan and enlarged gear fill the composition.

4. **P-04 / HEROIC TEST** — [poster-heroic.svg](assets/poster-heroic.svg) + [720 × 1000 PNG](assets/poster-heroic.png). Original generic colonist engineers in a low-angle composition, an oversized raised wrench and pointing hand, a massed workforce, unbranded Starship-like cargo transport and colony dome. Faceted paint planes, broken bristle marks, thick ink, vector halftone and seeded SVG grain create a painted-print study. Orange `#E8501A` replaces propaganda red; gold rays dominate the sky alongside orange. No facial detail, identifiable person, military insignia or state symbols. Source: [tools/build_heroic.py](tools/build_heroic.py), also called by the main builder. This is a test, not a new default palette or a leader portrait.

   Name pair: **银河工业 / Galactic Industries**. Original corporate slogan: **跟随崔净铭同志，向着红色的明天前进！ / Follow Comrade Cui Jingming. Forward to the Red Tomorrow!** The scene extends the rays, figures and workforce into the available height; an enlarged orange bilingual slogan block completes the image. Text remains untextured and readable.

All four show the full company wordmark and paired Chinese/English copy. Adapt line breaks, art scale and composition while preserving the tone and boundaries. The portrait and mural follow the same complete-image rule.

## Approved bilingual slogan typography

These eight source lines are adapted from the tone bible using the approved Chinese title 崔净铭同志 for CEO. The optional **fictional scene notes** are writing references for separate narrative scenes, not poster copy or captions. Notes are authored for this kit, not additional claims from the source. Chinese slogan: ZCOOL; English slogan: Plex Bold.

| Propaganda: Chinese / English | Optional scene notes: Chinese / English |
| --- | --- |
| 伟大领袖崔净铭同志照亮红色星球！ / The Great Leader CEO lights up the Red Planet! | 董事会把照明预算改成了肖像框预算。 / The board moved the lighting budget into portrait frames. |
| 超额完成五年计划——在第三年！ / Five-Year Plan exceeded — in Year Three! | 五座穹顶完成两座；目标后来改为一座。 / 2 of 5 scheduled domes finished; target later revised to 1. |
| 呼吸更少，奉献更多。 / Breathe less. Give more. | 董事会批准印口号，未批准更换滤芯。 / The board approved slogan printing, not replacement filters. |
| 你的忠诚就是你的氧气。 / Your loyalty is your oxygen. | 忠诚积分无法驱动空气泵。 / Loyalty points cannot power an air pump. |
| 火星属于公司，公司属于你*（*条款适用）。 / Mars belongs to the Company. The Company belongs to you.* (*Terms apply) | 员工表决权：零。董事会保留全部股份。 / Employee votes: zero. The board retains every share. |
| 沙尘暴？那是地球官僚的谣言。 / Dust storm? An Earth-bureaucrat rumor. | 宣传部的投影仪被沙尘堵住。 / Dust has jammed the propaganda department's projector. |
| 加班是特权，不是负担。 / Overtime is a privilege, not a burden. | 董事会按时下班，报告却自动续写。 / The board leaves on time; its reports keep writing themselves. |
| 向着红色的明天，前进！ / Forward, to the Red Tomorrow! | 董事会把维修预算转给了揭幕仪式。 / The board diverted the maintenance budget to the unveiling. |

## Portrait frame

`assets/portrait-frame.svg` is 720 × 900, empty mint center, black outer structure and thin gold framing. The exact English placeholder appears in the slot, broken into lines only for fit. No silhouette, facial features, medals, uniform or implied approved image is present. The enlarged frame fills the available height while retaining its empty center and exact placeholder. Do not turn the frame into a state shrine or use it for a real political figure.

## Banner / mural and trailer use

`assets/banner-mural.svg` is 1600 × 640. A large orange diagonal, original gear-eagle and two-language Forward slogan form a wide workplace mural. Keep all copy 60 units from the edges. The enlarged slogan and mechanical crest occupy the full height as one complete image. No flag proportions, hoist, canton, national stripes or state-star geometry. Do not animate the mural into a flag.

For trailer use, hold the mural long enough to read both language blocks. Pan to the dust-clogged projector, then hold the fictional maintenance note. The regime ends looking absurd and unable to maintain its own spectacle. Do not finish on a heroic leader shot. Textures must be original and confined to artwork; never erode type or wordmarks. P-04 adds vector halftone, brush marks and an SVG grain filter to the scene only. The other templates keep crisp flat separations for clean reproduction.

## UI skin

`assets/ui-skin.svg` is a 1280 × 820 mint interface specimen. It is labelled **FICTIONAL SCENARIO / STATIC MOCK**. Structure: 12-column grid, 32-unit margins, 8-unit spacing; 4 px controls and 8 px windows; Plex titles/body, Martian labels, complete Righteous company wordmark. Dark variants use pure black. Navy is reserved for text, focus and 1–3 px lines. It never fills charts or controls.

One black-labelled orange primary action per view: **Read internal report**. Other controls are plain black or navy text. Never use decorative live indicators or invented telemetry. The specimen pairs the leadership's reported success with the disclosed target revision. An actual product's availability reads `UNAVAILABLE` until backed by real data. This is game interface art, not a local habitat control panel.

The showcase includes a working **Show internal record / Show official claim** toggle for this specimen. Both states remain marked fictional, with a separate internal report in the interface. This is an interface specimen, not a poster template. The interaction changes the displayed explanation only; it does not send data or control equipment.

## Do / don't

| Do | Don't |
| --- | --- |
| Give employees dignity and practical competence. | Mock deprivation, accents, victims, nationalities or religion. |
| Make the board's incentives visibly self-defeating. | Present the system as admirable or end on unqualified triumph. |
| Use original machine geometry and a four-point spark. | Copy a real flag, state emblem, slogan, leader or ceremonial seal. |
| Keep the exact portrait-slot placeholder. | Invent an approved selfie, insert a real leader or imply approval. |
| Use orange for propaganda, rust only for ground. | Replace the company orange with red flags or red UI fields. |
| Keep navy text/lines on mint or cream. | Use navy as a fill, swatch field, button, silhouette or background. |
| Spell out Galactic Industries in Righteous. | Use an initialism, mixed-face wordmark, glow or outline. |
| Compose each poster as one complete image. | Add a data strip, footer ledger or empty reserved band. |
| Use bundled OFL fonts and relative asset paths. | Depend on font CDNs, send analytics, add secrets or remote scripts. |

## Rebuild and review

ZCOOL subsetting collects every character used in **all `.md`, `.html`, `.svg` and `.json` files under `brandkit-nk/`**, including accessible SVG labels, and unions Basic Latin (`U+0000–007F`), General Punctuation (`U+2000–206F`), CJK Symbols and Punctuation (`U+3000–303F`) and Halfwidth/Fullwidth Forms (`U+FF00–FFEF`). Only codepoints supported by the source font are retained; Korean remains in Black Han Sans, and UI arrows stay in the other bundled Latin families. Names and slogans use nominal weight 400. The manifest records subset scope, size, codepoint count, output checksum and original source checksum.

After adding Chinese text, rebuild the subset **before** rebuilding SVG outlines. Run from the repository root (the original source is downloaded temporarily outside the kit):

```sh
python3 -m pip install fonttools brotli
curl -fL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/google/fonts/main/ofl/zcoolqingkehuangyou/ZCOOLQingKeHuangYou-Regular.ttf -o /tmp/ZCOOLQingKeHuangYou-Regular.ttf
python3 brandkit-nk/tools/subset_zcool.py --source /tmp/ZCOOLQingKeHuangYou-Regular.ttf
python3 brandkit-nk/tools/build_assets.py
python3 brandkit-nk/tools/export_pngs.py
python3 brandkit-nk/tools/verify.py
# Optional browser proof (requires playwright, pillow and local Chromium):
python3 brandkit-nk/tools/check_font_render.py --source /tmp/ZCOOLQingKeHuangYou-Regular.ttf
```

The subset tool checks the upstream TTF checksum, runs `pyftsubset` with the collected text and punctuation ranges, and refreshes the manifest. It never bundles the source TTF. SVGs remain fully outlined, so they have no `@font-face` or runtime font dependency. The showcase's `@font-face` and the outline builder both use the subset WOFF2.

Open `index.html` locally; no installation or external service is needed to view it. SVGs contain paths, not runtime font references. To rebuild the original vector sources, use Python 3 with `fonttools` and its `brotli` support: `python3 brandkit-nk/tools/build_assets.py`. Export PNGs using the supplied Playwright/Chromium script: `python3 brandkit-nk/tools/export_pngs.py` (requires `playwright` and Chrome/Chromium). Recalculate contrast with `python3 brandkit-nk/tools/contrast.py`. Run the deliverable and boundary checks with `python3 brandkit-nk/tools/verify.py`. See [QA.md](QA.md) for the completed browser checks. These commands run from the repository root. Rebuild dependencies are not browser dependencies.

Final review: verify the eight section anchors, every local path and font, bilingual glyph coverage, full wordmark, paired exports, complete poster compositions without strips or footer ledgers, empty portrait, responsive layout, keyboard toggle, navy restrictions, and boundaries. Keep all changes under `brandkit-nk/`. Commit the completed revision once after review. Do not push or deploy.
